It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Or is it? Around this time of year the vibe around my office tends to get a little more somber. Every year my clients seem to struggle a little more during the hoilidays compared to the rest of the year. I think this is likely due to a combination of reasons. The days get colder and shorter which means we are often less physically active, get less exposure to sunshine, and my even stay in more versus going outside and being social.
The holidays are a time for family. Which sounds great in theory. But let’s be honest, families can be stressful. And holidays may mean a time when we have to see family members who have hurt us in the past, or spend time with people we don’t exactly care for, or it brings into hyperfocus the family that is not around. The family that is not around due to the death of a loved one, or a family member leaving, or bridges that have been burned.
Tips for Holiday Blues

-Give yourself the time, space, and understanding that there will be joy filled moments but there may also me some hard moments. And that is ok.

-See if you can take the time to connect with someone you are close to or someone you wish you were closer to.
